A New Leash on Life can provide the following assistance in rehoming your dog:

The "Other Dogs" page is an area of our website where pictures of dogs or pups looking for new homes are posted with descriptions and contact information. Adopting the dog out is solely the responsibility of the owner or caretaker of the dog or pup ; we post the information as a courtesy to owners and folks who have rescued a stray to help them find new homes. People interested in meeting and/or adopting the dog or pup will directly contact the person listed in the posting. We would need a jpeg digital photo of the dog or pup. The photo should be less than 1 MB and sent as an attachment to an email supplying as much of the following information as possible in paragraph format to: webmaster@anewleashonlifedogrescue.org:

  • Name
  • Breed
  • Age
  • Spayed/Neutered?
  • Up to date on vaccinations, including rabies?
  • Current on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative?
  • Been heartworm tested?
  • Good with other dogs?
  • Good with cats?
  • Good with kids?
  • Good with ONLY men/women/kids?
  • House trained?
  • Crate trained/leash trained?
  • Used to being indoors or outdoors?
  • Know any obedience commands?
  • Any interesting things the dog does?
  • What's the personality? Friendly, wary of strangers, loving, hyper, couch potato, etc...
  • Any challenging habits that a potential adopter would need/want to know about? PLEASE BE HONEST!
  • Anything else that you think is necessary for a potential adopter to know?
  • Contact person's name, phone number and/or e-mail address so that potential adopters can get in contact with you.

You can also go to www.petfinder.com. Position your mouse over “Animal Shelters” at the top and choose either “by state” or “by distance” and a listing of all rescues/shelters in the state that are registered with PetFinder will be displayed. The “by state” listing is in alphabetical order by city and the “by distance” listing will begin with the shelter or rescue group closest to the zip code that you enter. There are quite a few in the Triangle area, as well as in the Triad. They have phone numbers listed, and you can access a particular group’s website by clicking on the group’s name.
